Dissociation is looking at yourself from a third person perspective.  This is done by visualizing your body from the outside, such as imagining yourself sitting in a movie theater seat while watching yourself on the movie theater screen.  This process dissociates, or removes you, from the feelings that you would experience if you were actually there.  Dissociation is the opposite of Association.
